If you live in a semi-tropical climate a flea infestation is very common and likely, and knowing how to get rid of fleas naturally becomes even more important. Fleas tend to thrive in warm weather. Fleas are hearty creatures and very difficult to get rid of once they infest your home and your pets.

It has been shown that using chemical treatments against fleas can harm the pet’s liver and kidneys. Toxic and harsh remedies can cause allergies, kidney failure, liver damage, seizures, vomiting, and brain damage. Chemicals do not belong on pets or around pets. Use a natural remedy for fleas.
The problem with a flea infestation is that you have to treat the pet and the house if you want to eradicate the fleas. If you cannot manage to get rid of fleas on the pet and in the house, the vicious cycle will continue. My first choice to control fleas on a pet and in the home is a spray probiotic. You can also use essential oils and/or combine treatments of oils and probiotics. Nature does know best.
The House
First you need to wash all linens and your pets’ bedding. Use your regular detergent and add five drops of lemongrass oil to the machine. You can also add a spray probiotic to the wash. After you put all linens back out, spray them with a probiotic. Make sure you have removed the infected pets from the house while you are doing this.
Around the outside of the house, pour apple cider vinegar. Pour it against the outside wall of your home at ground level. You are building a wall that fleas, most likely, will not cross. You can also put peppermint oil around your windowsills and doorways. Again, you are creating a natural barrier to keep fleas outside.
Purchase a spray bottle (8 oz.) and add water to the spray bottle (fill it). Then add ten drops of essential oils. There are several essential oils that are known for controlling and killing fleas. You can add citric oil, peppermint, or lavender to the water bottle. Spray the couch, chairs, under your bed, all mats, along the windows, the pets’ areas, and rugs. Your house will smell wonderful. The spray cannot hurt anything in your home because it is all-natural. You will need to vacuum and spray for about five days straight to get rid of the fleas and flea larvae. Please remove the vacuum bag immediately and take it outside to your trash can.
Once the fleas have been removed, maintain the house by spraying your dog 2 times per day with a probiotic spray. Make sure to vacuum regularly and always take the old vacuum bag outside immediately after you vacuum.
